Tell prospective students about your IMSA experience at open houses, high school fairs and Preview Days.
A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available with the Office of Admissions. If you are interested, please contact Julie Dowling (jdowlin@imsa.edu), or fill out the printable form and return it via fax or post.
Opportunities
- IMSA Hometown Flyer Distributor
- A fall “grassroots” advertisement campaign regarding upcoming IMSA informational meetings in alumni representative’s home communities. Alumni will be asked to distribute Office of Admissions flyers listing time, and date of meeting to highly visible areas (ie. Schools, Churches, Libraries, Book Stores, Coffee Houses etc.) The more volunteers, the more area across the state covered. Materials will be mailed home. Purpose: The ability to reach further into a community to spread the word about the Academy. Time Commitment: Varied
- IMSA Alumni Representative/Area Meeting Contact for Statewide Informational Meetings
- Approx. 20 Admissions staff led evening meetings conducted mid fall & early Winter about Academy life and the Admissions process. Alumni, along with IMSA parents, will be asked to share their personal IMSA experience. Ideally, will require approx. 20 alumni (1 per site). Meetings are statewide and ideally would require participation from each of the regions. Confirmed dates and locations TBA. Purpose: To share the very important current alumni perspective with prospective families. Time Commitment: 2 hours
- IMSA Alumni Representative at Chicago Area High School Fairs
- IMSA attends approx. 20 Chicago Area Junior High School fairs regarding educational opportunities at the high school level. Admissions staff and an Alumnus will be on hand to discuss Academy life and the Admissions process. Ideally, will require approx. 20 alumni (1 per fair). Confirmed dates and locations TBA. Early fall. Purpose: To share the very important current alumni perspective with prospective students Time Commitment: 2–3 hours; these fairs are typically during workday hours
- IMSA Alumni Ambassador Application
- The Office of Admissions staff encourages alumni to suggest the Academy as an option for 2007–2008. Admission is competitive so we ask that alumni do not make promises. Please contact Amy Conyers, Coordinator of Admissions, at 1-800-500-4672 (IMSA) to recommend a student to be placed on the IMSA mailing list. They will receive an application for 2007–2008 academic year, information on testing, and open house information. Purpose: To communicate the educational opportunity of the Academy to appropriate candidates. Time Commitment: Limited
- IMSA “Talk to an Alum” Contact
- In addition to the current “Talk to Student, Talk to Parent and Talk to Staff” links, IMSA is looking to add a “Talk to an Alum” option on our website. Select Alumni will field questions and correspond with prospective families via email. Ideally, we would like to offer four alumni representative bios and emails from around the state for families to select from. Purpose: To provide a full array of perspectives, and additional personal contacts for prospective families. Time Commitment: Varied
- IMSA Preview Day (Formerly VIP Day/Visitor Information Program) Parent & Alumni Café Host
- Each year the Office of Admissions hosts two large weekend open houses (November 11, 2006 and January 28, 2007). 500+ prospective students from across the state attend each of these days to learn more about the Academy. Up to 5 representatives will be needed. Purpose: To allow prospective families the opportunity to talk with IMSA alums. Time commitment: 3–4 hours
- IMSA Alumni Endorsed Letter
- IMSA is looking to expand personalized communications with prospective families by distributing targeted mailings to new prospects co-written by select Alumni on the IMSA experience. Purpose: To provide additional information on the Academy for prospective families. Time commitment: Limited
- IMSA Alumni Area Receptions for Prospective Families
- IMSA is looking to deepen our applicant pool and increase application completion rates by offering Alumni Receptions. Hosts will welcome area IMSA staff and prospective families into their home for an informal afternoon with a personal touch, on Academy life and the Admissions process. Dates and locations based on Alumni availability. Other area Alumni not able to serve as hosts will be able to assist with the event. Purpose: To share the IMSA story with prospective students in under-served areas and provide a more personal connection to the Academy. Time Commitment: Hosts—Involved; Event Assistants—4 hours. Includes reception planning and set-up, 3–4 hour event, participant follow up with the Office of Admissions. Mandatory IMSA training provided for Hosts.
