29 September 2005 Minutes

by Neal Groothuis last modified 2005-11-02 05:07 PM

Attendees: Paul Strasma, Kathy Plinske, Kelly Baluta, Pooja Agarwal, Doug Pratt, Ande Croll

First order of business was the Alumni Survey. It was decided the best way to send out an announcement about the survey was to use the IAA announce list. Additionally, an article will be put in the fall IMSAlum about the survey.

Next item was Alumni Weekend 2006 date. Date originally selected was June 10–11, 2006; however, this date was never put on the IMSA master calendar. That date has been scheduled for the Midwest Talent Search event. There will not be facility space for both events. Doug proposed June 24–25, 2006. That weekend already is scheduled for sophomore orientation, but it seems the best option to avoid conflict summer holidays. Suggestion was made that future Alumni Weekends be moved altogether-perhaps to Homecoming weekend. It was mentioned that there is not much "homecoming" on that weekend and perhaps moving Alumni Weekend to that timeframe might change the spirit. Additionally, it was proposed that IAA and IMSA should work together to make a multiyear commitment for future Alumni weekends (for example, for the next three years Alumni Weekend should be on the last weekend in June). Doug will talk with administration to firm up Alumni Weekend 2006 date. Proposals for future Alum ni Weekends will be discussed again at November meeting.

Continuing with Alumni Weekend, Doug said that coordinators still are needed for Classes of 1991 and 2001 reunions. Pooja suggested Lauren Kozak for 2001, and Doug said he would contact her while still looking for additional volunteers. For 1991, there are no volunteers as of yet so best suggestion presented was for Doug to contact previous coordinators, Shawna Schnorr and Kim Kinsella, and ask if they would like to help or if they can suggest other people who might be interested in coordinating with the event.

Fall IMSAlum is coming together. Most articles are complete and are being edited. It is currently on schedule to be mailed out the second week of November in order to be received in homes before Thanksgiving.

Pooja has sent out emails to IAA announce list and list compiled by Adam Gibson (previous IAA Intersession coordinator) soliciting alumni participation for Intersession 2006. There are still a few days left before proposals are due. Dr. McLaren has agreed to have a lunch with all alumni who participate in Intersession 2006.
