I. Call to Order
Meeting was called to order by Croll at 8:10 p.m. Central time.
II. Items for Action
There were no items for action on the agenda.
III. Items for Discussion
A. IMSA Discipline Committee Recommendations
Croll reported that the first disciplinary hearing took place under the
new procedures, giving a student the right to have an alum in attendance
at their hearing. Due to the short notice, an alum who from the IMSA
staff was chosen to attend. Mitch Roth, a parent on the IMSA Discipline
Committee, contacted Croll to express concerns about alumni-staff being
able to be open and honest during a hearing with the Principal present.
Croll responded that the lack of alumni who can respond on short notice
precipitated the situation, and came to the Cabinet for recommendations.
Cabinet members asked if other meeting alternatives were available, such
as tele- or video-conferencing or holding evening meetings - Croll will
investigate. It was decided, as a short term solution, to ask
past-members of the Cabinet and other recent alumni volunteers if they
would be willing to serve at these hearings. Croll will return to the
Discipline Committee to get further guidance about the alumni role in
the process.
B. Regional Club Coordinators
Recent concerns regarding the activity and viability of regional clubs
was discussed. Colby is investigating who the current coordinators are
and will report back - however, she recommended the Cabinet decide what
resources and goals the IAA could offer the clubs before calling a
meeting of those coordinators. As regional clubs are the Vice
President's responsibility, Croll will discuss the matter with Orloff.
C. E-mail lists
Revuluri expressed a desire for IAA e-mail lists to be integrated into
myIMSA, so alumni could easily sign up for a variety of lists that apply
to them. He also would like easier access for IAA representatives to
myIMSA reports for the purpose of setting up such lists. He will work
on pulling together more thoughts. Johnson stated that a draft of goals
for the next version of myIMSA is being circulated and interested
Cabinet members could be set up on a conference call with the developers
on the project to provide suggestions for improvements. Pratt expressed
concerns over the security of the data on the current e-mail lists,
citing increases in spam and virus traffic on the lists. He called for
the lists, as well as the IAA Web site, to be moved to independent and
more secure systems. Croll will call on Groothuis and Swanson to
investigate.
D. Intersession Luncheon Planning
Agarwal reported that a luncheon recognizing alumni facilitators for
Intersession 2006 will be held in the AcPit on Tuesday, Jan. 10. There
is seating for 50 people - with 30 alumni facilitators, there is room
for 20 more people. Agarwal requested guidance on whom else to invite.
Suggestions included inviting faculty/staff sponsors and asking
attending alumni whom they want to invite.
E. LinkedIn Career Networking Proposal
Pratt suggested that career networking functions could be in the next
version of myIMSA. Johnson echoed the comment, added that there is an
effort at IMSA to not duplicate efforts in this regard. Johnson is
working on setting up a conference call to let interested Cabinet
members give feedback to the developers on all these topics.
F. Alumni Survey Status
Baluta said the first round of prizes has gone out, but did not have
numbers on how many responses were in so far (Strasma, who was not
present, has those numbers).
G. IMSA Preview Day on Nov. 12
Plinske has one definite and two tentative volunteers for the Nov. 12
event. She expressed concern about a lack of responses and about having
old volunteer data. Current information will be requested from IMSA.
H. Alumni Weekend Status
Pratt reported that Josh Levin will coordinate the '96 reunion. He is
still searching for a '91 coordinator. Agarwal is working with a
potential coordinator for '01. Pratt said the date for Alumni Weekend
has been confirmed as June 24-25, 2006.
IV. Announcements
Baluta will represent the IAA at the IMSA Fund Board Meeting next week.
Pratt will represent the IAA at the IPAAC Meeting this Thursday.
Swanson will fill in for Croll (who will be traveling for work) at next
week's IMSA Board of Trustees Meeting. The Fall IMSAlum will be
distributed to board members.
The Fall IMSAlum is in the process of being distributed to alumni this
week at IMSA. It should arrive in homes by Thanksgiving (on schedule).
V. Adjournment
Pratt moved, Colby seconded. Meeting was adjourned at 9:05 p.m. Central
time.
