IAA Cabinet Meeting
Wednesday, January 10, 2007
8pm CST

I. Call to Order
Meeting called to order at 8:03 CST.
Attending: Ande, Kelly, Mindy, Eva, Pooja, Matthew, Kevin, Carolyn
Excused: Neal, Julie
Not in Attendance: Scott, Paul

II. Items for Action

III. Items for Discussion

a. Chicago IMSA20 Event (Ande)
Event is scheduled for this Saturday (Jan 13) at Reza's in River North.
Right now, have about 40 confirmed attendees, including IMSA staff.
Numbers lower than expected. Will ask for IAA subsidy at the next
meeting, depending on actual attendance. Price negotiated based on 60
attendees. If 60 attendees do not attend, will ask IAA to pay the
difference (at $28/person). Kelly suggested that we could use money from
Regional Club line item or the IMSA20 line item on the budget to help
support the regional IMSA20 events.

b. San Francisco IMSA20 Event (Ande)
Event is scheduled for Saturday, January 25 at Kuleto's Tratorria in
Burlingame. Right now have approximately 25 alums interested in
attending. Also, Dr. Marshall, Dr. McLaren, Cathy Veal and Jennifer
Spuehler will be attending from IMSA.

c. Boston IMSA20 Event (Ande, Kevin)
Anjali Adukia (IMSA 1996) is in the preliminary exploratory planning
stages for an IMSA20 event in Boston in late February or early March.

Dr. Marshall and Dr. McLaren will be in L.A. March 12-17. There is the
possibility of coordinating an IMSA20 event in that region during that
time. Will begin pulling together names of people who may be able to
help coordinate.

d. Intersession Update (Pooja)
Much of this year's planning fell to Julie because she could attend
Intersession and Pooja could not. Pooja recommends that future IAA
Intersession coordinators also be facilitators. There are 28 alumni
facilitators for Intersession this year (approximately half are
returning facilitators). An alumni facilitator lunch was held Tuesday,
January 9 with Dr. Marshall and Dr. McLaren. Also, an informal alumni
facilitator dinner is scheduled for Thursday, January 11.

e. Thank You Letter Revisited (Ande)
As of yet, there are no responses to the letter except from the Cabinet.
The URL listing in the IMSAlum is a little obscure and may not generate
much traffic. Suggestions to get more people to visit: announcements at
the IMSA20 regional events, having a blurb put in the next alumni e-news
put out by Brenda Buschbacher. Regarding this second option, Carolyn
will talk with Brenda about that possibility and then coordinate with
Ande, Paul and Kevin as necessary to pull together a blurb.

f. University Host Program Status (Mindy)
Mindy has been working with the Student Senate to broadcast information.
Likely, the program will not be very active this year because most
seniors are done with colege visits. The plan is to put a letter out to
alums currently in school in the coming month to ask for their
participation starting next school year so juniors/seniors can visit
schools in the fall when they are still making decisions regarding where
to apply. Next year will have the added benefit that the class of 2007
is aware of the program and may be more willing to volunteer to be hosts
for it.

g. LUMEN Status (Matthew)
Matthew has met with Carolyn and set up a planning timeline. The first
step is to send out a "save the date" e-mail and/or postcard about the
event to all alums. The event will happen on Saturday after and Sunday
of alumni weekend. The tentative topic will revolve around
IMSA20-related issues (eg. focus group topics, innovation's effect on
science and society, alternate views on leadership). The schedule will
include two hours of alumni professional networking prior to the opening
LUMEN event on Saturday. Sunday will consist or 4 1-hour or 5 45-minute
small-group discussion sessions.

h. Alumni Weekend/Reunion/Elections Planning Status (Ande)
Have tentative coordinators for 1992 15-year reunion with approximately
15 alums already interested in attending the event. The 1997 10-year
reunion is looking for a co-coordinator to help Doug. The 2002 5-year
reunion team is currently brainstorming to address issues like how to
reach out and find alums who have fallen out of contact. The next
reunion planning will happen before the end of January.

All current Cabinet members are asked if they are considering running
for another term on the Cabinet. The executive committee positions also
are open for election this year so Cabinet members can (And should)
consider running for an exective position if interested. If not
interested in returning to the Cabinet, consider being the elections
chair. One still is needed to help coordinate elections. Otherwise, Ande
would like recommendations for other people who may be
interested/willing to be the elections chair.

IV. Announcements and Reports
Will discuss communications issues next month. Communications seems to
be a problem as we cannot always reach out to the alumni base we are
trying to reach. Pooja and Matthew recommend contacting Loren Kozak
(IMSA 2001) because she is in advertising. They also recommmended
looking at her website, www.lorenkozak.com <http://www.lorenkozak.com>
to get a better idea of what she works on.

V. Adjournment
Meeting adjoured at 9:10pm CST.
