Roles and Responsibilities

Brief descriptions of the Cabinet Officer roles and typical responsibilities of At-Large Members.

Official cabinet responsibilities can be found in the by-laws. The following roles are recommendations based on the activities of the 2008–2009 Cabinet. All Cabinet members are expected to attend monthly 60–90 minute teleconferences to report on activities and advise on business that is brought to the Cabinet.

Officer Roles

The President directs the business of the IMSA Alumni Association, presiding over all Association meetings and serving as the liaison to the IMSA Board of Trustees.

The Vice-President acts in the absence of the President and manages Association events and affiliated club activities.

The Secretary documents association meetings, manages membership records and manages all Association communications, including the imsaalum.org web site and e-mail lists.

The Treasurer develops the Association budget, monitors expenditures and serves as the IMSA Fund Board liaison.

At-Large Members

At-large cabinet members provide leadership to Association activities and projects or serve as a liaison with IMSA departments. Typical responsibilities include:

Admissions Coordinator
Coordinate with IMSA Admissions to recruit alumni for regional information meetings and IMSA preview days.
College, Careers, Choices Coordinator
Work with the Student Council to schedule and coordinate 3-4 events over the course of the school year, focusing on a particular career. Identify Chicago-area alumni in this career field who are available to participate in the forum.
IMSA 360 Contribution
Provide IMSA with alumni updates for possible inclusion in the IMSA 360 newsletter.
Intersession Coordination
Encourage alumni participation in Intersession by communicating the process, recruiting alumni facilitators and coordinating with the IMSA Principal to find them faculty sponsors. Work with IMSA to communicate logistics and organize an alumni luncheon and other social events during Intersession week.
Regional Event Coordination
Identify and coordinate with regional event hosts to facilitate IAA sponsored local events and activities. Provide guidance on event planning, use of available IAA funding and MyIMSA contact information. Coordinate with IMSA Advancement to arrange events around faculty and staff travel plans.
Reunions & Alumni Weekend Coordination
Recruit class reunion coordinators, providing guidance during planning and manage tasks and timelines to ensure successful events. Coordinate with IMSA Advancement to secure space for Alumni Weekend activities and plan the Faculty/Staff recognition luncheon.
Technology Administration
Manage the Association computing infrastructure, including the IAA.org Linux sever, the Plone content management system, and e-mail listserv. Serve as a liaison with IMSA Computing and Network Services. Extend and enhance the online resources available to IMSA Alumni.
University Host Coordination
Work with the Student Council to reach out to alumni currently at universities to pair students who plan to visit universities with alumni who are currently students there.
